So I read a recent research study done on a multitude of brands and the results? Not that surprising. A little under 50% of the brands studied said that the jury was out on social media. Why’s that not surprising? Well, one can’t exactly measure the return on the investment as easily as one might like. It takes a lot of time and resources to track all the data necessary, or you just have to luck out and have an ingenious analyst on your team. And the inherent value isn’t exactly forthcoming either. Reputation isn’t as easily tracked as one might think, but that’s what it does. Social Media investment, at it’s core, creates a massive return on reputation. The trouble is that controlling that reputation is so difficult. Why?
Having a veritable cornucopia of positive social opportunities means you also have just as many negative social opportunities. Keeping the balance can be tedious. One slip up and you can have the hounds on your tail, losing favor universally. The cost of setting up a social media investment is easily calculated. The return? Not so much. A lot of digital marketers play the guess and check method of throwing money at a campaign they think might have value and then checking if there was any verifiable return. This happens more often than you think. Now you may have thought to yourself, if under 50% of the brands were unsure, what did the other think? Well let me break it down for you. All but 1% of those studied acknowledged that there was some value in social media investment. It’s crazy I know. 35% of that noticed a similar or increased return than from other types of media investment.
What does this all break down to? Well, it’s becoming undeniable that Digital and Social Media marketing is on the rise. In the future there may be a complete switch to either. We need to get on this train FAST before we become totally obsolete. Who’s with me?

Many managers of marketing are reluctant to use social networks for one simple reason … there are a positive answer to the immortal phrase of the film Jerry Maguire: Show me the money!
And to be completely honest I must say that they have a point. To date, there is often possible to cite successful cases in the use of social media when compared with other more traditional ….To add more arguments should be pointed out coldly that measuring ROI in social networks is still not as straightforward as it seems and there is no universally-structured methodology and much less defined.
Nonetheless it should be noted that while the ultimate goal of marketing is to generate profits, they do not always mean money. Having said this, we noted seven benefits that social media can give the marketing business, which could subsequently make tangible benefits that ROI so desired.
1) Connect with potential customers
Not necessarily a person entering a store or visit their site for the first time you are buying, however, we like to do because we know it becomes a potential customer and could soon be captured. When we engage in social networks, each follow, each I like, each recommendation, it means a potential customer.
2) Customer Service

Social marketing success is measured by the benefits of the marketing campaigns to the society rather than the financial gain or increase in sales. Social marketing seeks to educate the society on certain issues and suggesting solutions to societal problems, and not entirely promoting certain goods or services. Funds spent on social marketing cannot be recovered in financial terms, but in terms of making the lives of people better.
To ensure your social marketing success, it is important to define the aims of your campaign. What do you wish to gain from this marketing? A reduction in the number of motor accidents is increasing awareness of road safety regulations or any other. The aims must be specific enough and numeric values attached if possible; that is the only way to measure the success of the marketing successfully. For instance, the aim could be reducing road accidents by 15% by the end of the year, by doing this we can measure at the end of the year if this has been successful or not.
After defining the aims of the social marketing, you need to identify your audience. What age group should the audience encompass? Which media will be more appropriate in reaching them? The methods that will work for young people may not work for the elderly. If the audience is online, then the internet will do but if not, another method has to be found to get the message to them.
The approach to the marketing will depend on the audience. If the audiences are online and are part of social networking groups, then perhaps Facebook or twitter will be a good medium. If they love to watch photos, then you could create your campaigns as photos and tag them in. You could also use banner adverts and Google Adwords for the elderly internet users who are not part of social networking sites.
Finally, you need to analyze your methods used and results obtained and check them against the aims stated. If the aims are being met, then all is well but if not, you may need to rethink the strategy. It is also important to determine where things went wrong; maybe you are targeting the wrong audience or using the wrong methods. For instance, targeting an anti-smoking campaign at minors will not yield any results. This is because they are barred from smoking by law and so a campaign in that direction will not change anything. It is sometimes very difficult to set out the aims of the campaign, but as time goes on, the picture becomes clearer so aspects can be adjusted to fit.
Social marketing success makes society better. For example, a success in the seatbelt campaign will lead to the reduction in fatalities in road accidents, thus saving a lot of lives. In recent times, social marketing has become more effective online that anywhere else. Campaign leaders can have forums online where members can contribute their ideas on the issues and help sensitize other people. Online methods deliver messages faster than print and electronic media.
