What are the social networks and how do they work?
Each network consists of nodes, all linked together in cyberspace and central hub. It’s like a map of the roads leading to and from all the different nodes. The individual members to join the network of “nodes” interconnected with each other for the common interests of business, or simply socialize.
You might wonder how social networks have begun. As soon as people realized that the World Wide Web took them almost any type of information available, began wondering how to share this information with your friends. Where there is a need to reach a solution. Social networking has emerged because there was no need for it.
For starters, there were two forms of social relationships online. Chat and exchange and linking of e-mail . It was quite good when it comes to one on one communication, but it took an organization linked personal pages to open people to a large number of contacts.
Perhaps one of the greatest advances is the development of user profiles. In this way, friends of people can recognize and connect with them, and new friends can know more about them and decide if they want to tame.
In the past, in small rural communities or neighborhoods where people have formed groups, opportunities for friendship and meeting new people are many. Social networks these days are generally limited to areas that could reasonably be expected to be at your fingertips.
Today, people are moving. Are increasingly isolated in the midst of evolving populations and movement . Keeping in touch with friends and distant relatives? How to know new people? How to share experiences and ideas?
In the privacy of your own social networking site, you can see all the activities and news for your network of friends with minimal effort. To scroll a bit and you know exactly what is happening. You also often able to video chat and web chat.
In general, you also have the choice to grant or to close the visitors to the page. You can also comment news, videos and photos on a website for friends who have granted access to their sites.
The overall assessment is that there are over 200 social networking sites are running, each with its own twist on what they think people want to communicate about.
It seems that there is an increasing tendency to specialize in order to attract people with common interests. For networks, for example, an expert in cooking and gardening and automotive systems, animals and pets and networking for singles in search of new friends, partners or even sex itself.
What people are interested, there are social networks so they can share and express themselves. Many large social networks that meet the general interests of socialization also provide links to specialized sites, such as finding employment, health, or any amount of useful information.
A huge new field of academic research has opened up for social networking. In the old days, many people were just friends in the geographic areas in which they lived close enough together to communicate easily. All this has changed, and a dear friend across the world is only a mouse click.
The constant search to be done, both for sociological reasons and simply for commercial purposes: to gain recognition and attract more users. Deliver what people want always the key to success.
The success is really what some sites have been submitted. Face book units sold in mind incredible amount of money left at least some of the founders of the billionaires.

Chris is: “writing a column about how businesses can benefit from social networking websites”. Sound familiar? This is my Facebook update. If you’re not sure what I mean, keep reading. Wait, even if you know what I mean, keep reading!
Have you ever noticed how almost everyone you know is involved in some type of social networking website? Whether it’s Facebook, Myspace, Linked In, Twitter or the countless other sites, social networking websites have become an accepted form of communication and method of keeping tabs on what the people you know are up to. The benefits also cross the line into the world of business and this is where it gets interesting.
If you are skeptical, I invite you to look into the membership numbers. My Space claims to have over 200 million members. Facebook reportedly has 80 million and is growing rapidly. The list of other websites goes on, but the numbers are staggering.
Although sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are perceived to be mainly for friendly networking, you can also create pages for your business. And for those who aren’t yet on the bandwagon, hop on Facebook or one of the other sites and search around for a particular company. If they are savvy and educated on how social networking is transforming the way business is done, you will find them. Whether it’s a group, a fan club or a page about the company, there is a good chance you’ll track them down on one of the social networking sites.
Similar to Google ads, many of the most popular social networking sites have advertising and marketing opportunities available. For many businesses, this has proven to be a very effective approach, as advertisers can be ultra specific with the demographics they want to target. You can run a campaign that gets as specific as you want. I know a company that recently launched a Facebook marketing campaign targeting 35-40 year old married females living in a specific zip code. Think about all of the public information people post and then think about how it can be compiled and used as the world’s largest marketing database, as I recently heard it called. Scary isn’t? Scary, but genius.
It’s fairly obvious that these large networking sites can benefit advertising and marketing campaigns, but how can sales people use them to their selling advantage? This particular topic has grown in popularity and I have noticed more and more people using social networking sites to help drive sales. But what’s the real story? Is this acceptable to many of the people who frequent these sites? How effective are these efforts?
As a fairly late adopter of the social networking craze, I don’t consider myself to be an expert on every site, but I would like to share my experiences and observations and let you decide what may work best for your selling efforts.
I was surfing around on Facebook the other day and the instant message pop up suddenly appeared. It was my financial advisor reminding me to complete a list of actions that I needed to get off my backside and complete. After I responded, I quickly realized that he was using Facebook to follow up with his clients and move business forward. Good for him! In this case, I didn’t feel like it was awkward that we were in a way, doing business on Facebook.
I have another “Facebook Friend” who constantly posts updates about the company he sells for. He is very into it and develops very compelling messages. Almost daily, you can count on some blurb about a new product, an event or some other news. One could argue that he isn’t really selling, but by typing a few words and clicking enter, he is getting his companies name in front of hundreds of people in his network. Prior to his posts, I had never heard of the company. Now, I am a customer. Interesting.
I know several people who rely heavily on Linked In as a prospecting tool and database. With a few clicks, they can look up companies and contacts within the company that they are somehow connected to. Even if the contact is two or three friends away, there is a connection of some type and that can often be used to warm up calls or even broker an introduction with that hard to reach executive you’ve been trying to pin down.
These are just a few examples of sales people benefiting from incorporating social networking into their sales efforts and I’m sure new ideas and techniques and best practices will continue to be developed. The opportunity for sales professionals continues to grow and it’s time every business accepts it and looks for ways they can best fit into these types of websites.
So go Twitter (or should I say Tweet) about something related to your business. Create a group on Facebook for your company. Check Linked In to track down prospects. Create a My Space page and educate prospects about your product or service. Your biggest challenge will be remembering all of your different user names and passwords and keeping up on updates for each site, but there is almost a guarantee you will see a healthy return on the time and effort you put into it.

David Friedman is a friend who likes to talk about how social networks and social interactions can support innovation. The challenges are dual. One, how do we get the right talent together? Two, how do we get these talented individuals interact in the right ways?
Crowd-sourcing lets individuals generate ideas, but better innovation can come from the interaction of people with a diverse set of skills and interests. How can such a group of strangers, be assembled, and how can it function well together and be productive in a minimal amount of time?
The quality of results in collaboration problem-solving is a function of two variables: the diversity of input and the quality of the interactions among the people. Suppose we could bring together many diverse people and use outstanding group problem-solving methods. Presumably, they would get better results than a relatively small group that works well together — such as a good team — or a diverse set of individuals who do not work together.
Here are some examples of collaborations that bring together larger groups than teams and also use methods that allow individuals to work together
(1) Innocentive. This well-known platform for solving problems works when individuals who think they have the answer to a problem can submit and be paid if their answer is selected. Most of these problems are solved by an individual who sees fairly quickly that he or she has some knowledge that can be applied to the problem. Not much teamwork is at work.
A friend of mine, David Friedman, talks about Innocentive Chinese style, which is a reference to groups of participants in China collaborating to decide upon which problems to attack. The variety of problems they attack comes from the stream of Innocentive problems.
In Good to Great, Collins and Porras write about getting the right people on the bus and then determining the appropriate strategy. By taking advantage of the stream of Innocentive problems, the Chinese groups have gathered the right talent and can also look for the problems that this particular assemblage is best positioned to solve. The laws of probability suggest that his method will yield greater fruits than what individual Innocentive participants can do.
The popular Netflix Prize challenge produced ever larger groups of collaborators as it neared its end. As the teams grew, they were able to use traditional, novel, and collaborative problem-solving techniques from larger groups that in some ways were unique to the problem. They mathematically combined algorithms (their solutions to the problem) to get better results.
Open Space methods bring people with a stake in the problem together and then let them work together on what they believe are the important elements. They yield results that cannot be easily predicted but are very powerful.
Polymath was a high-level mathematical collaboration that yielded outstanding results through open collaboration of many individuals. Conducted on a blog and guided by a set of rules that encouraged participants to share ideas that were not complete but upon which others could build (or refute), Polymath promised to yield optimal ways to structure their interactions.
