Little kids on Social Networks !!!
Marketing on social networks requires more of a focus on the human element since its more about building relationships then it is your technical knowledge. There’s no way around it, social networking for business requires building trust with others which requires time and interpersonal skills. You notice I did not say effort since making ‘friends’ should be more an act of enjoyment and not regarded as labor!
In order to get the best results when social networking for business here are 3 things you will need to do.
Take off your selling shoes and pull up a chair so you can get to know people. Building relationships is an absolute must to even get notice on any social sites and as you know this takes time. Even if you are only social networking for business time must first be taken to develop some type of bond with others or you will be invisible to them and useless to your business!
The bonds you do develop need to be meaningful insofar as maintaining a knowledgeable, professional and always helpful profile. For any marketing attempts to be successful people must first have some confidence that you know what you are talking about and that your intentions are good and not all business. Your best results will come ONLY after you have taken the time to develop this good reputation with others.
The most important ‘component’ of the reputation you develop is trust! As touched upon above your reputation must be a positive one that reflects credibility but building trust is just as, if not more important. If people can not trust in you then any efforts you put into social networking for business will be wasted. People can not be expected to part with their hard earned money if they lack faith in you so obviously building trust is a priority. The best way to achieve this trust is to make a habit of being helpful or freely offering any type of information that may be of use or interest to others. Do so without any expectations of receiving anything in return and people will quickly regard you in a trustworthy manner. Besides, it feels good to be helpful to other!
There is no need for technical skills when marketing on social networks just simply be willing to pull up a chair and stay for a while. Tapping into the viral potential of these communities will require building relationships with others first and this will take time and patience. By building trust with people in this way simply makes it easier to effectively promote to them in the future. It is very important to remember these are in fact social communities therefore your acceptance MUST precede any marketing efforts. Once this acceptance is earned by following the 3 suggested steps above it will make social networking for business a breeze for you!

How To Social Network | FanBizzy.com
As you get more and more sucked into social networking for your business it becomes increasingly important to ensure that you get the best efficiency out of the time that you spend. Maybe two or three years ago I would sit at my computer in a morning, open Outlook and check my mails, now it’s all to easy to do the same with all the social networking opportunities that are out there but it’s all too easy to find ourselves social networking from first thing in the morning until lunch time and then thinking “what have I achieved?”
I bet there’s many of you out there that can empathize with me so I’ve been doing a lot of work to ensure that whatever time I spend social networking is giving me a good return on my investment. In particular I find that Twitter is becoming more important in my daily routine so a lot of what I have to say revolves around some of the free Twitter tools out there but there are in addition some knock on effects to other business social networking sites too such as Facebook and Linkedin.
How do you ensure that when you Tweet you’re actually finding people and not just tweeting into a black hole? The first thing to do is to ensure that your followers are targeted, in other words people who are actually interested in what you are tweeting about. Getting targeted followers is a difficult job and to my mind I’ve so far only found one tool that does this for you with any degree of success and that you have to pay for.
There are free tools out there however that tell you whether your tweets (in fact the links) are being read and getting people to click through to your site or the product you are promoting and these include bit.ly.com and tinyurl.com – 2 link shortening sites. The service is in effect two fold because the link shortening first of all helps you get the most out of the 140 characters that you are allowed per tweet on Twitter but then each shortened link is also a unique code that allows the click through rate to be reported.
Monitoring this click through rate will help your work out how to write and target a tweet so that it gets read. Techniques to use include how you write the Tweet, ask a question rather than make a statement and also the time of day that you tweet. You may find that you get a better response to Tweets that go out at lunch time for example than those that go out in the evening.
Scheduling tweets brings me onto the next free software tool that you can use because let’s face it, none of us are awake 24/7 so being able to automate some of our tweets can really help. To do this there are a number of “dashboards” available and the functionality of these dashboards is growing fast. Some offer their own URL shortening and tracking service, all offer the tweet scheduling and in addition (and the reason why these sites are called dashboards) you can get a summary of all your social networking activities in one place at the same time.

How to Make a Social Network from Scratch: Part 1 – Begining the Design (remake)
Social networking – everyone is doing it but are we doing it right? Nowadays businesses are spending big bucks on improving their brand awareness and this means they are joining their teenage children on all the big social sites!
It seems even the big businesses are having to succumb to the huge advertising boards that are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn to mention a few. No one can afford to ignore the reach of social media.
So how do we control what is being written about our business? Social media is a public forum so once it’s out there you have to remember there is no going back.
It is not just your business pages that have to be monitored; one of the biggest concerns is naive employee’s posting comments on their social pages about your business.
A social media policy needs to be flexible but clear for all your employees. An outright ban on social media sites will not work; almost all of us have access to a smart phone with all these apps under our nose. Don’t dictate but discuss!
Set your brand and stick to it; this way you will be recognisable and stand out from other similar companies. Talk to your employees, novel idea, but by discussing the dangers of social networking as well as the advantages you may open up a forum of ideas that could benefit you and your business.
Open discussions are less condescending than an email telling you what your employees can and can’t say or do in their spare time.
We have to remember there will always be a small minority of people who will do something silly no matter what you say, honesty and trust is crucial in your relationship with your employees.
Always remember what you are trying to achieve by your social networking; think about your audience and what they want to see.
What about blogging? Blogging seems to be the path to enlightenment these days or certainly to a spot in Google’s good books. Make sure the content is fresh and interesting. Think quality not just quantity! Articles should reflect what your business is about and offer something of interest to the reader whether this is advice or just an informative view on your business.
Think about what your clients are searching for and write about it! Don’t use obscure titles, it may seem clever but your potential audience won’t find you! They are going to search using key words so make sure you include them in your article and title.
Ask questions and involve your reader in a discussion, this makes the experience more individual and draws them in. Remember the better the article the more likely people will share your link driving traffic to your website and potentially improving your customer base!
Working in HR we have to be very aware of Social Media and it’s pitfalls but we also need to remember what a great tool this can be. I try to make my HR Blog personal whilst passing on useful HR information, hope you enjoy it. Let me know if there are other topics you would be interested in, I would love to hear from you.
